The ‘A-sides | B-sides’ project aims to empower people to engage and have conversations with people they wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to speak to, and promote awareness of environmental concerns. It is a set of four pairs of tracks, each representing an element, being released throughout spring and early summer 2021.

No.1/4:    Air

The air duo was released on the 28th March 2021. The two tracks have recurring themes of air, space, movement, and hope.

A | Moonlit Skies
B | Leaves in the Light

Moonlit Skies was written in response to watching the NASA Perseverence rover landing on Mars in February 2021. The track is a love letter to the red planet, and the rover that is now up there on it. The track includes samples from the rover’s microphone, so whilst listening to the track, you can also hear the sound of the actual rover on another planet!

Leaves in the Light looks at all the different colours of a relationship.

The tracks have now been heard inside both the Arctic and Antarctic circles, and sent up to the International Space Station.

The Air A-side | B-side is available on all major streaming platforms now!

“Fantastic! [she draws comparisons to] Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading, Laura Marling - not bad company to be in!”
Shaun Keaveny, BBC Radio 6

No. 2/4:
Earth

The Earth pair was released on the 27th April 2021. They were the first songs written for the project, back in the first UK Covid-19 Lockdown in 2020.

The Heron was written in response to the joy I felt from watching the birds in the tree outside my window.

The Centipedes looks at the peculiarity of daydreaming in the garden.

The tracks have now been heard by leading female climate scientists around the world, at conservation centres inside the Amazon Rainforest, and at the Chatham Islands, New Zealand; the Antipodal Point (the furthest inhabited landmass) to Cardiff, my current location.

“Very dreamy and yet down to earth; they spark a sense of appreciation for nature and all its beings”
Judith Westveer, conservationist working in the Amazon Rainforest

“You are an incredible talent! I though your songs were lovely”
Kate Marvel, TIME Magazine’s Top 10 women leading the fight against Climate Change

No. 3/4:
Fire

The third release, representing Fire, came out on the 25th June 2021. They were inspired by my love of geology, so both are written about volcanoes.

Fifth View of Fuji was written about how I imagine it would feel to live in the foothills of an active volcano, and partially inspired by the fifth print in Hokusai’s ‘36 Views of Mt. Fuji’ series.

Pele’s Hair
is about the formation of ‘Pele’s Hair’; a sharp, brittle type of volcanic glass, usually found in the volcanoes of Hawaii, that is created in thin, pale strands, and is light enough to blow away in the wind.

The tracks have now been heard by geologists working at Volcano Monitoring stations around the world.

No. 4/4:
Water

The final pair of the A-sides | B-sides Project were released on the full moon last September.

Octopus was written from the perspective of a fish being chased by an octopus.

Late September Rain is an appreciation of the colours in summer as they fade back to green.

The tracks have now been heard by scientists working onboard multiple scientific research ships in international waters, including the RRS Sir David Attenborough, and in an underwater science lab.
