About the person

I am a progressive indie-folk artist, currently based in Edinburgh.  Almost everything I do is solo, and I try to make everything as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible.  I am currently studying for an MSc in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh in order to become a clinical psychologist, specialising in musician’s mental health, and I completed my undergrad in Commercial Music at Bath Spa. I grew up in Cornwall, but have spent most of my life in South Wales, I have a cat and two dogs, and everything I do is fuelled by bourbon biscuits.

I record, produce and master all my own music, as well as creating all the promotional content and marketing single-handedly.

About the artist

Sally Robinson is an independent indie-folk artist, writer and producer. She writes of specific moments in time, fleeting thoughts, and finds inspiration from art and sculpture. Often celestial, and usually introspective, her songs are compelling; her gluey guitar lines meld with her soaring melodies and airy vocal to assist her storytelling. She is frequently compared to Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, and The Staves.

‘The A-sides | B-sides project’ grew from Sally Robinson’s passion for the Earth. It follows her debut EP, In Amber, which was released in the first few weeks of lockdown last year, and received radio play across the UK and Europe. Through the promotion for this, she found a love for learning the individual stories behind each listener; this inspired the initial idea for A-sides | B-sides.

The project is a series of four pairs, each representing a different element. Through the promotion, she sent the tracks to interesting people in interesting places around the world to see how far her voice could travel. The whole process is carbon neutral.

‘Air’ is the first of the four pairs, and was released on the 28th of March - the first day of British Summer Time, and a full moon. The first track, ‘Moonlit Skies’ is a love letter to Mars, and the gentle whirr of the first samples from the microphones on NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover can be heard in the first few seconds. The B-side, ‘Leaves in the Light’, looks at all the different colours of a relationship. The tracks have already been heard by astrophysicists and meteorologists all over the UK, Houston, Texas, and Ontario, Canada, and the list is growing by the day.

She writes, records and produces her own music; everything you see has been created solo. She is also a student, and in September will begin studying a Masters degree in Psychology. Her live band consists of Jackson Clark on keys and backing vocals (links), Torin Moore on drums, and Arthur Pearson on Bass.
